While its preparation took us slightly out of our daily legal practice, it also built on it in many ways. But after weeks of preparation, we have a result that we are all very happy about. It is a book called The Accessible Lawyer: how to deal with common legal situations.
Our intention in creating it was to guide the reader through everyday situations that have some legal context. Far from being just about entering into written contracts, these are common purchases, claims, dealing with one’s own housing job, starting a family and the associated maternity and parental leave claims, and possibly the sad aspects of our lives such as divorce and dealing with inheritance. Together, therefore, we have looked at our clients’ stories primarily from that perspective to find the types of situations that are recurring and can be easily resolved without the need for court decisions. Some of the topics have been covered before on our blog, but most of them have been treated in a new way and with regard to the current legislation.
However, we try to advise readers not only how to deal with accidents, but above all how to prevent them effectively, for example, by preparing good quality contracts that take into account different scenarios. We base our approach on our law practice and on what our clients are really interested in and concerned about. The structure of the chapters and their parts is therefore determined by this.

The individual parts are:
- Family law and inheritance,
- Labour law,
- Consumer Law and Shopping,
- Housing and
- Litigation and Enforcement.
The book is written in a clear and concise manner to make it accessible to everyone. At the same time, however, it is written by experts with insight and practical experience. We therefore supplement the legal theory with examples from our legal practice to make it easier for readers to imagine what can happen and how it can be remedied. Using real-life situations, we then illustrate, for example, how the infidelity of a spouse has tangled up the procedure for establishing paternity, advise on the correct course of action for an heiress who has been omitted from inheritance proceedings, or point out what can affect a very narrowly defined place of work in practice.
The result should be to enable the reader to understand and conceptualise an issue so that he or she will be able to cope in a similar situation. At the same time, however, we also point out situations where the stakes are really high, they are legally complicated and one cannot do without a lawyer even with the best of insight.
The book can also be a valuable tool for students of law-related subjects, who will get a quick overview of the topic being taught. It is therefore a kind of introduction to law.
