Forget queues at the tax office, paperwork and the stress of looming deadlines. Did you know you can do your taxes conveniently online – anytime, anywhere? With just a few clicks, the clear world of My Taxes opens up before you. This modern tool of the Financial Administration of the Czech Republic allows you to manage your tax obligations simply, quickly and without unnecessary administration. From filing a tax return, to checking payments, to claiming a VAT refund from the EU.

my Taxes ePortal – what is it about?

the My Taxes ePortal is the official portal of the tax administration, operated by the Ministry of Finance(MoF). The portal allows citizens and companies to conveniently manage their tax affairs via the Internet. After logging in, you will gain access to your online tax office – i.e. the tax information box (DIS+), where you can monitor the status of your filings, view your tax file, keep track of payments and communicate electronically with the authorities.

The tax portal of the MoFČR also enables electronic filling in and sending of tax forms (e.g. returns or control reports), verification of VAT payers by VAT number, submission of VAT refund applications from EU countries and electronic signing of documents via the eSignatureFS application.

My taxes – login

There are several ways to log in to the tax portal:

Via Citizen Identity

This option includes multiple login options:

  • Mobile eGovernment Key: the easiest and quickest way to log in using the free mobile app. Just scan the QR code from your computer screen, confirm on your mobile and you’re logged in – no passwords or codes to enter.
  • Eobčanka: The ID card with a chip allows you to log in via a card reader and enter your PIN. It is activated when you pick it up at the office; the reader can be purchased for about CZK 200.
  • NIA ID: Online identity with two-step verification – you log in with your name, password and a one-time SMS code. Registration is done online, activation via data card, eObčanka or Czech POINT.
  • IIG: Registration for foreigners.
  • Banking identity. It acts as a secure bridge between your bank and the state administration. Fast, no installations and no need to set up anything.
  • MojeID: Online identity managed by CZ.NIC, which allows users to create and manage their online identity. Once authenticated, this identity can be used to log in without having to create separate accounts for each service.
  • I.CA identity. It uses a smart card with a qualified certificate and provides a high level of security. It is managed by the First Certification Authority, a.s.

Via data box

If you have a data box (individual, entrepreneur or company), you can use it to log in. Logging in is done by redirecting and verifying your identity by logging in to your data box.

Using an electronic signature

You can also log in using a qualified electronic signature (e.g. a certificate stored on your computer).

Now let’s take a look at the functions and applications offered by the My Taxes portal:

Online Tax Office (DIS+)

The Online Tax Office (DIS+) is a modern service of the Czech Tax Administration that allows you to keep track of your taxes and manage them conveniently from anywhere. Simply log in and you will instantly have access to your personal tax information box.

DIS+ serves as a clear online interface where you can find information about your tax account and the public part of your tax file. It allows you to keep track of returns filed, payments received and any arrears. Thanks to the connection with the EPO application, you can fill in and submit tax forms directly in the DIS+ interface, use automatic pre-filling of data, save pending submissions and set up notifications or a personal tax calendar. The mailbox also allows you to easily grant access to another person – for example, an accountant – and define the scope of their authorisation, without having to contact the tax office.

Electronic submissions to the tax administration (epo)

The EPO (Electronic Filing for the Revenue) application is designed to make it convenient and secure to complete your tax obligations from the comfort of your own home. It allows you to file your VAT, income tax return and control report online – all clearly and easily from your computer.

If your accountant has prepared the form for you, it can simply be loaded in XML format, edited and sent. You can send your return with or without an electronic signature – with the option of an additional confirmation. The system also includes an automatic check of the accuracy of the data via an error log, which alerts you to discrepancies and helps you to correct them easily.

It is easy to use – the EPO tax portal works in a standard web browser without the need for installation. Simply select the relevant form, fill it in, check for any errors and submit.

On the tax portal’ s overview of available forms page, you’ll find a complete list of all the types of submissions that can be completed and submitted via EPO – from tax returns to notices or applications.

The advantage is the link with the MY Tax portal – within DIS+ you can directly fill in the forms, have the data pre-filled from the system and submit without further signing.

VAT register

The VAT register on the My Taxes portal is a useful online application for verifying information on value added tax payers. It allows any user to easily find out whether a particular person or company is a VAT payer, an identified person or whether it is listed as an unreliable payer.

The register also includes the published bank accounts that VAT payers have reported to the tax administration and which they use for their economic activity. This allows you to check whether the invoice you are supposed to pay indicates the correct account.

The register also shows the number of the tax office where the entity is registered and, from June 2023, whether the entity is an identified person within the meaning of the VAT Act.

This service is primarily intended for entrepreneurs, accountants and anyone who wants to check the credibility of their business partner before entering into a contract or carrying out a transaction.

VAT refunds within the EU

The EU VAT Refund function is used to electronically submit a claim for a refund of VAT paid in another EU Member State.

You can use the application not only to submit the VAT refund application itself, but also to submit a separate declaration to adjust the coefficient for the pro rata refund entitlement. The interface also includes an overview of the claims already submitted and their current status.

To access the application, a request for access must first be submitted electronically via the EPO system. The application must be signed with a recognised electronic signature or a verified identity of the applicant, for example by logging in via a data box. The tax office usually processes the application within 15 days and informs you of the result by text message.

You can then only log in to the application in the same way that the application was signed – either by electronic signature or by a verified identity.

Why use the tax portal?

  • Saving time and convenience: You can log in to the tax portal in seconds using Citizen Identity (e.g. bank identity, eGovernment mobile key, eCitizen, etc.) and sort everything out from home – without waiting at the offices.
  • Instant overview of your tax situation. You can set up notifications, a personal tax calendar or assign accountant access.
  • Easy electronic filing: the EPO (Electronic Filing for the Revenue) system allows you to fill in and submit tax forms – including income tax returns or VAT e-filing. Forms can be pre-filled, saved and checked with an error log.
  • Check VAT payers: the VAT Register makes it easy to check whether a business partner is a VAT payer, an unreliable payer or an identified person, and which bank accounts they have registered – avoiding the risk of liability for unpaid tax.
  • Foreign VAT refunds: The EU VAT refund application allows you to claim a refund of tax paid on purchases made in another Member State. Everything works fully online and securely.
  • Modern tools in one place: Whether you need to verify the VAT payer, electronically sign a document or apply for a VAT refund from abroad – the mfcr tax portal offers everything clearly in one place.

Summary

The Tax Portal of the Tax Administration (Portal My Taxes) is an official online service of the Ministry of Finance that enables citizens and companies to manage their tax affairs electronically.

Login is possible via bank identity, eGovernment mobile key, eObčanka, data box, electronic signature and other means.

The portal offers filling in and sending forms (e.g. income tax or VAT returns) using the EPO application. There is also a register of VAT payers and a tool for VAT refund requests from abroad.

The advantage of the portal is time saving, an overview of the tax situation and the possibility to settle everything online without visiting the office.
