Even those who are not interested in influencer and entertainer Kamil Bartosek, better known as Kazma, know about it. It’s about the most famous competition of today, which has made the whole Czech Republic crazy. But as we found out after examining the terms and conditions of the contest, winning the one million dollar prize is by no means certain. And even the law won’t stand up for the eventual winner. So it’s possible that Kazma will legally avoid having to pay out the prize at all.
The contest is tied to ONEMANSHOW: The Movie, which is currently in theaters and gives ticket-holders a card to enter a follow-up contest to win $1 million. It is the most successful Czech film in history, so the competition is a mass affair.
The essence of the competition is the opening of a vault guarded by armed security guards in Prague’s Holešovice. This can be achieved in two ways: either by winning a special prize card, which can be given to one of the lucky cinema-goers together with a ticket, or by entering a unique ten-digit code, the individual positions of which can be obtained by watching the film carefully and following the search outside the cinema premises. The whole game is additionally timed for added excitement.
It is clear from the concept of the competition that it is intended to motivate viewers to revisit the film and look for further clues. It will probably not be possible for any visitor to crack the code in a few days. This would remove the main incentive for others to visit the film.
The final cracking of the code is therefore by no means certain. That’s what we’re counting on. Surprisingly for the legal layman, however, even if someone does manage to crack the ten-digit code, even then their winnings are not guaranteed. In fact, the organizer reserves in article 5.9 of its competition terms and conditions that the payment of the prize is neither legally entitled nor enforceable in court.
This is also in line with the law which states that if the prize has not been given, the winning party cannot claim it. So the question is whether the whole nation is now chasing only chimera.
