The Constitutional Court has tentatively cleared the way for the president to attend the NATO summit

Shrnutí: The Constitutional Court ordered the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure President Petr Pavel’s participation in the July NATO summit in Ankara. It issued this order as a preliminary measure in a jurisdictional dispute between the head of state and the government of Andrej Babiš.

According to the court , the government must immediately notify the summit organizers that the president is part of the official Czech delegation, secure his accreditation, and refrain from taking any steps that would prevent his participation. The summit will take place on July 7 and 8, 2026, and the deadline for accreditation is this week.

The Constitutional Court emphasized that the preliminary injunction does not prejudge the final decision on the division of powers between the president and the government in foreign policy. It will address the jurisdictional action subsequently; according to current information, the final decision will not be issued before the summit itself.
