Driving licence without queues and authorities
Forget visiting the office to exchange or lose your licence. From July, you can have it delivered to a drop-off or storage point, thanks to the Transport Portal. With just a few clicks, the application is pre-populated and you pay straight online. This change will make life easier for the hundreds of thousands of drivers whose licences expire this year.
An accident? Call the police from up to 200,000 in damages
Another important change concerns traffic accidents. While up to now it was necessary to call the police only when the damage exceeded CZK 100,000, the limit has been raised to CZK 200,000. This means that drivers can deal with minor accidents themselves – unless, of course, there are injuries, damage to third-party property or other disputes. Even so, if you are not sure of the amount of damage, it is better to call the police.
There will be less signage – but smarter
There will be fewer road signs on the roads, which should improve clarity. There will also be clearer signage on alternative routes on motorways to help with diversions. The marking of dead-end streets and one-way streets with cyclists running in the opposite direction has also been modified. The aim is greater clarity for drivers and cyclists – and less confusion.
