Effective October 1, 2026, changes to the state social assistance benefit—known as the “super benefit”—will take effect. The scope of vulnerable individuals is being expanded, the method for calculating housing costs is changing, and the minimum cost of living for an individual has also been increased.

Single parents caring for a child up to age 15 are now considered vulnerable, whereas the age limit was previously seven years. At the same time, standard housing costs are no longer determined based on the size of the municipality but rather by individual districts, which is intended to better reflect actual differences in housing prices. Starting in October, the minimum cost of living for an individual has also increased from 4,860 to 5,500 crowns.

Current recipients of the “super benefit” do not need to submit a new application due to these changes—the new parameters will be applied when their eligibility is reassessed. However, this does not automatically mean that everyone’s benefit will increase. The specific amount continues to depend on income, assets, household composition, and eligible housing costs.
