If your car is stolen or attacked abroad, you can contact the Czech Embassy. They will not provide compensation, but they will help you deal with the situation – for example, if you lose your documents, contact the police or need legal or medical help.
If you are the victim of a crime abroad, the first step should be to contact the local police. We then recommend contacting the Czech embassy – in Greece this is the Czech Embassy in Athens or the consulate. The embassy can help you, for example, with arranging a replacement travel document, contacting your family, or providing a list of local lawyers and interpreters.
However, it cannot interfere with the investigation or pay for your legal representation or treatment. As a last resort (for example, if you are completely destitute), it can also provide financial help – but in the form of a repayable loan. It is also always a good idea to take out travel insurance to cover the cost of treatment or repatriation.
Have you had something happen that has legal implications but you don’t know what course of action makes sense? Do you suspect you are entitled to something, but are not sure whether or how to claim it? Or have you read advice on the internet but each says something different? A Consultation with a Solicitor is just for these situations.
