As of 1 May 2025, licence fees will be extended to those who watch or listen to public service content on a mobile phone, tablet or computer. It’s no longer enough to say “I don’t have a TV”. If you have a device at home that can display TV or radio broadcasts, you become a payer.
Households using only internet TV or streaming platforms are no exception – it’s the technical possibility of reception that matters, not what you’re watching.
Those who already pay the fees must send a higher amount from May – a total of CZK 205 per month. The radio fee rises to CZK 55, the TV fee to CZK 150. New fee payers (including those with a mobile phone but no traditional TV) must sign up by 15 May 2025 at the latest, or face surcharges of up to CZK 10,000. Registration is done via SIPO, data box, e-mail or the Czech Television and Radio website. If you have electricity and smart devices at home, it is quite likely that the change affects you.
