The Senate approved the Senate’s proposal for an amendment to the Road Act, according to which the one-day electronic vignette would now be valid not only until the end of the calendar day, but for the entire 24 hours. As it is a Senate initiative, the proposal still has to be considered by the Government and then debated by the Chamber of Deputies.

Today, if you buy a stamp with immediate effect, it starts at the time of payment but ends the same day at 23:59:59. In practice, this means that a driver who buys a one-day vignette in the evening and their journey goes past midnight will have to buy another one to continue driving on the motorway. The approved proposal is intended to change this situation so that the one-day charge corresponds to the actual 24 hours.

According to the explanatory memorandum, the amendment will require changes to the system for checking the validity of the stamps and is expected to come into force on 1 January 2027. The proposal also assumes that the impact on the revenue of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure cannot be quantified precisely, although it could reduce some of the revenue from one-day stamps. The Senate documents remind that a one-day stamp for ordinary passenger cars costs CZK 230 this year.
