The Czech Republic is preparing for changes in employee remuneration. The new European directive on transparent remuneration, which Member States must implement by June 2026, will make it compulsory to publish starting salaries and disclose the gender pay gap.
Companies in the Czech Republic will have to adapt to new rules to improve pay equity. Employers will be obliged to tell candidates the starting salary at interview and will not be allowed to ask for information about previous remuneration. In addition, employees will have the right to access data on the average salaries of colleagues in the same position.
For companies with more than 100 or 250 employees, regular publication of statistics on pay gaps will be required. If a difference of more than 5% is proven without objective reason, the employer will have to take corrective action. The directive, which the Czech Republic must transpose into its legal system, may bring greater transparency, but also administrative burdens and possible legal risks for companies.
