Online stores will soon have a “cancel order” button, but the Czech amendment is not yet finalized

Shrnutí: Consumers should have an easier way to withdraw from a contract when shopping online. European Directive 2023/2673 introduces the requirement to provide an easily accessible option for withdrawing from a contract on online platforms; in practice, this will most often take the form of a visible button labeled “Withdraw from the contract.”

Všeobecné obchodní podmínky pro e-shop

The new legislation is expected to affect not only traditional e-shops, but also, more broadly, businesses that enter into online contracts with consumers, including providers of digital services and certain financial services. In the Czech Republic, it is expected to be incorporated primarily into the Civil Code and the Consumer Protection Act; however, as of June 24, 2026, the relevant transposition amendment is still pending in the Chamber of Deputies as Chamber of Deputies Print No. 53.

The button is not intended to introduce a new right to return goods, but rather to simplify the exercise of the existing right to withdraw from a contract. For e-commerce sites, this means modifying their websites, customer accounts, confirmation emails, and return records; customers should be able to process their withdrawal online without having to search for forms in the terms and conditions or contact customer support.
