An inheritance may not only mean property, but also debts and other obligations. That is why the law gives heirs several options for dealing with the estate. Some accept the inheritance, some reserve an inventory of the estate so as not to be liable beyond the value of the property acquired, and some reject the inheritance altogether. These concepts are often confused in practice, with quite different consequences. In addition, strict time limits apply to the rejection of an inheritance and once the heir has expressed a wish to accept the inheritance, it is often too late to back out.

A repayment plan can help you spread your debt into regular payments and avoid further penalties, termination of the contract or foreclosure. However, it is not an automatic entitlement - for ordinary debts, it is mainly the creditor's consent that counts, for taxes the tax office decides and for enforcement the bailiff. You must therefore clearly describe the amount of the debt, the reason for the financial difficulties, the proposed repayments and prove that you can actually pay them. The sooner you approach the creditor, the better chance you have of reaching an agreement before the debt becomes more expensive. Let's take a closer look at its rules.

How much does a notary cost? You will usually pay several thousand crowns for drawing up a will. In inheritance proceedings, the fee is calculated according to the value of the estate - for example, in the case of an inheritance of CZK 1.5 million, the basic notary fee is CZK 17,000 excluding VAT.
