The minimum advance payment for health insurance in 2026 is CZK 3,306, while the basic minimum payment for social insurance for the main activity is CZK 5,720. The Labour Inspectorate checks whether employers comply with the Labour Code, safety rules, remuneration, working hours, agency work or the ban on illegal work. Inspections can come in a planned manner, on the initiative of an employee or after a work-related accident. The inspector can enter the workplace, request documents, question the employee, impose corrective measures and, in serious cases, impose a fine or a ban on the use of an unsafe workplace. However, not every dispute can be resolved by the inspectorate - wages owed, invalid notice or compensation often have to be recovered through legal action.

The probationary period is a period when both the employee and the employer check whether the employment relationship suits them. After the flexinove of the Labour Code, it can be longer than before: up to 4 months as standard, up to 8 months for senior employees. However, for fixed-term employment, it must still not exceed half of the agreed duration of the employment relationship. In addition, the probationary period is explicitly extended by working days on which the employee has not worked a full shift during the probationary period, for example due to illness or holiday.

The rules for unemployment benefits have changed as of 1 January 2026. Newly, the first months of support are paid at a higher rate than before, the maximum amount has changed and the age limits for the length of the support period have been moved. The gross wage is the amount agreed with the employer before deducting tax and insurance premiums. Net pay is the amount actually paid to the employee after deducting social security, health insurance and advance income tax, or after taking into account tax credits or allowances. In 2026, an employee pays 7.1% of his or her wages for social security and 4.5% for health insurance. Children, sickness, benefits or payroll deductions will also affect the final net pay.

In fact, a cooperative apartment is not an "apartment" in the sense of a privately owned property, but a cooperative share with which membership in a housing cooperative and the right to rent a particular apartment are associated. This is the most common source of confusion in practice. It is also important whether it was a joint membership of the spouses or the exclusive cooperative share of only one of them. In the first case, on the death of one of the spouses, the share in the inheritance is usually not addressed at all and the surviving spouse remains a member of the cooperative. The Ministry of Justice has sent an amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure for comment , which should explicitly allow the disclosure of the nationality of suspects or accused persons. This is to be limited to justified cases where such information is necessary for objective public information.

Today, the Criminal Procedure Code requires law enforcement authorities not to jeopardise the clarification of a case, not to disclose information unrelated to criminal activity and to respect the presumption of innocence when informing the public. The proposed amendment is intended to supplement these rules with an explicit possibility to disclose the nationality of the suspect or accused if it is appropriate and justified in the specific situation.

The Ministry justifies the proposal in particular by seeking to prevent the dissemination of misleading information and prejudicial hatred, where criminal activity is often attributed to foreigners or minorities. Ethnic origin is to remain non-public. The amendment also provides for greater protection for whistleblowers and persons giving explanations, whose identities should not be made public.
