The company Velká pecka, the operator of the online supermarket Rohlik.cz, has finally failed in a dispute with the Constitutional Court over a fine of CZK 2.5 million. The court confirmed that the cooperation with couriers had the characteristics of illegal dependent work, the so-called shvarcsystem. The decision of the Constitutional Court judges thus concludes a several-year dispute with the Labour Inspectorate and provides clear guidance for assessing relationships within the so-called gig economy.

At the beginning of May 2026, the Constitutional Court unanimously rejected a proposal by a group of senators to repeal the statutory regulation that limits the amount of remuneration for politicians holding multiple offices simultaneously. According to the ruling, the current system, whereby a politician receives only part of the remuneration for other functions, is in line with the constitutional order. The Court stressed that the regulation pursues a legitimate aim and does not violate the principle of equality.

The creditor is not required to present new facts regarding the debtor’s assets, but must, upon the bailiff’s request, post a reasonable advance payment toward the costs of enforcement.

The amendment to the Criminal Code effective as of 1 January 2026 has fundamentally changed the view on the criminal sanction of non-payment of maintenance. Whereas previously, failure to fulfil maintenance obligations for a statutory period of time was in itself a criminal offence, criminal liability is now limited to cases where the actions of the obliged parent actually put the child in danger of destitution. This change also has significant implications for proceedings that were initiated before the amendment came into force but are only now being decided.
